02. Das war in Schöneberg

Music: Walter Kollo

Walter Kollo (1878-1940) was born as Walter Elimar Kollodzieyski in the East Prussian small town of Neidenburg. Along with Paul Lincke, he is regarded as Berlin’s most prominent composer of „light entertainment“ music in the 20th century. After completing classical music studies, Walter Kollo moved to Berlin in 1899. In the capital, his comic operas and revues met the public’s taste exactly.
Kollo worked relentlessly and in numerous creative capacities – including tour manager, film composer, writer, director, and publisher. His son Willi Kollo and his grandson René Kollo were later to become famous musicians as well. „Das war in Schöneberg“ is a typical hit from his pen. Kollo created it in 1913 for the Berlin posse „Wie einst im Mai.“
